About The Facilitator

Graham qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1983 and then went on to train and work in the NHS as a Family Therapist, Counsellor, Solution Focused Therapist, Researcher, Mindfulness Teacher and Mental Health Services Manager. In 2005 he founded the Playfield Institute to research positive psychology and over the following 12 years provided training and information on what individuals, family groups and wider communities can do to enhance mental health and wellbeing. In 2007 he created the internationally acclaimed HandsonScotland website, for the Scottish Government, to provide practical information on how to support children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Following a lifelong personal interest in meditation practice, in 2008 Graham undertook formal training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, followed by training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and has taught numerous in-depth courses to a wide range of health, social care and education workers. In 2014 he developed and continuously delivered an eight week mindfulness based programme for mental health patients and in 2018 produced the first research study in print (Nursing Times) on outcomes from mindfulness based interventions in everyday NHS practice. Graham lives with his wife in rural Fife and has two grown up daughters.
